The similar products button and the "you may also like" block
The two blocks Buskara places on the store's own pages, where they go on each platform and what you tune in the panel.
Outside the search box, Buskara puts two things on the store's own pages: the similar products button, which opens the panel with more of the same kind, and the "you may also like" block, the recommendations carousel. Neither asks for theme changes: on each platform there is a place where they hook in, and the rest is tuned in the panel, with no module to update.
What each one shows
The similar products button is a discreet magnifier that appears over the product card in listings, and a labelled button on the product page. Tapping it opens the Buskara panel with products of the same kind, filters and side-by-side comparison already at hand. It is the shortcut for whoever likes the product in front of them but wants to see the alternatives before deciding.
The "you may also like" block is a carousel drawn inside the page. On a product page the suggestions start from the product being viewed, and that one is never repeated inside; on any other page, it shows the store's overall recommendations. "Always" merchandising rules apply here just as they do in search: whatever you pin or favour in the panel leads here too (see merchandising rules and pinned products and boost).
Both only draw themselves when there are results to show. A block with nothing to say takes no room on the page, which is why it can be left in places where there will not always be suggestions.
On a Shopify store
In listings there is nothing to do: with the app embed turned on (see connecting a Shopify store), the similar-products magnifier appears over the product cards on its own. The button on the product page and the block are theme editor blocks, and the merchant chooses where they sit.
The button on the product page:
- In the store admin, open Online Store → Customize.
- In the page selector at the top, choose Products and the template in use.
- In the product details section, click Add block and choose "Buskara: similar products button".
- Drag the block into position (below the buy button is the usual spot) and Save.
The "you may also like" block:
- In the same editor, on any template, click Add section or block and choose "Buskara: you may also like block".
- Drag it into position, usually below the product description or at the end of the page, and Save.
On a product page the block starts from that product; on a page that is not a product page, such as the home page, it shows the store's overall recommendations.
On a PrestaShop store
The module handles both on its own, with no theme edits: the magnifier shows on the listing cards and on the product page, and the block goes at the end of the product page. What you decide is where the button sits on the product page, and that is decided in the panel (next section).
Some themes do not call the chosen hook. When that happens the button does not disappear, it goes to the other spot, which is always better than having none.
On any other platform
On a bespoke store, or another platform, both blocks hook in with an empty marker at the place where they should appear. Buskara adopts the marker and draws the rest:
<span class="bk-slot-similar" data-bk-id="123" data-bk-name="Linen jumper"></span>
<div class="bk-slot-recommend" data-bk-id="123"></div>
data-bk-idis the product identifier as it stands in the index, the same one the catalogue sent.- On listing cards, add
data-bk-place="over"to the magnifier marker: that way it sits over the photo instead of appearing on a line inside the card body. - On a page that is not a product page, leave the block without
data-bk-idand the carousel shows the overall recommendations. - The markers can stay on the page at all times, even in stores where the blocks are off: empty, they take no room. Grids that arrive later, through filters or pagination, are picked up all the same.
What you tune in the panel
Everything below lives in Account → Stores → edit and reaches the stores with no module to update:
- Show recommendations, in the Recommendations section, is the switch for the block. Off, the carousel does not show on the store pages and the search box opened with nothing typed keeps only the recent searches.
- Products in the carousel, between 2 and 12, is how many the block asks for. The grid in the search box has its own size.
- Similar products button on the product page chooses the spot on the product page: Under the product images, the safe one that nearly every theme has room for, or Next to the add to cart button, where the decision is made and where the theme usually has the least room.
The look of the cards inside both blocks is the one of the search results, and is edited in the same place: accent colour, corners, buy button and the rest are in appearance and theme integration.
If they do not show up
- The plan does not include them. The similar products button and the block are plan features; without them, Buskara draws nothing instead of drawing a button the API is going to refuse. The plan screen says what each tier includes.
- The block is off, on the Show recommendations switch.
- There is nothing to suggest. A small catalogue, or a product with nothing of the same kind, leaves the block with nothing to show, and it does not draw itself.
- On Shopify, the block is on another template. The theme editor keeps placement per page template: a block added to the "product" template does not show on pages using an alternative template. Check as well that the app embed is on.
- The product is not in the index. A marker with a
data-bk-idthe index does not know stays empty, and the cause is nearly always in the products that do not show up guide.
